While parody games are usually a dime-a-dozen, Snoot grew noteworthy on /v/ for not only satirizing Goodbye Volcano High, but also for being very good. What follows seems to be pretty standard visual novel fare: Anon is trying to keep his head down and just get through school as uneventfully as possible but the colorful cast of characters breaks him out of his shell. In Snoot, the player is a human character appropriately named Anon attending the Goodbye Volcano High dinosaur high school. Meanwhile, some /v/ anons, unbeknownst to the rest of the community, had begun work on a Goodbye Volcano High visual novel parody of the game: Snoot. Also, its creator, Kate Gray, once included uncensored stills from a Harry Potter porn game on Kotaku, which made Goodbye Volcano High all the more target for mockery.įor most of the internet, the backlash died down after the initial reveal, but the game continued to be a source of jokes on /v/. The game quickly became a laughing stock online, particularly on 4chan's /v/ board, for a myriad of reasons: it was criticized for looking too similar to Night In The Woods, for seeming to reek of "art school" pretentiousness and for using its queerness as a marketing talking point. At last year's Sony live-stream event where they unveiled the PS5 and previewed some upcoming games, the internet's eyes were drawn to Goodbye Volcano High, an animated drama starring a largely queer cast of anthropomorphic dinosaurs in their final year of high school.
